About the Silver State Building

The Silver State Building has always been tied to Great Falls’ growth. It was built by L.H. Hamilton—known as the “Dean of Montana Sheepmen”—as the city’s first major garage, at the moment automobiles began changing the West. Hamilton even drove a Franklin automobile from Boston to Great Falls in 1910, and cars were sold and serviced in this building as downtown modernized.
